Today, amid the ruin and refuse of former glory, a few botanical delights can be found. The yellow lady slipper orchid, favouring the limestone wetlands, grows here in wild profusion from mid to late June.
Also, if you tread very quietly, the moose may be glimpsed as he makes his home in the hidden fens and tuckamore groves among the convolutions of the Table Mountains.
This route is a one afternoon hike, covering a total distance of about 10 kilometers and can be done in 4 - 5 hours. The route for the first 2.5 km is up a well-maintained road. The mountain route is over bare rock along the mountain top.
Map and compass may not be necessary. Generally the hiking is easy to moderate.
