Hare Hill is a prominent elevation in the Long Range Mountains of western Newfoundland. At 1957 feet above sea level, it commands an inspiring view of the surrounding wooded countryside. Wildlife sightings are common. Caribou graze on and around the summit, rock ptarmigan nest among the tuckamore and arctic hare have been known to live here.
It is a wilderness area in every respect. There are no developed trails. The hillsides are crisscrossed by caribou trails and have been used for centuries, deeply etched into the landscape.
This route is a one-day hike, covering 4 kilometers of wilderness, 800 feet elevation gain, 1957 above sea level. Seven kilometers over forest access road, no marked trails, moderate to difficult terrain, for expert map and compass navigators, experienced hikers.
